Having said that, her face resumed its calm-as-still-water expression, and she clapped her hands, sternly scolding the onlookers around her, “What are you standing there for? Get back to work! Have today’s designs all been completed?”
“Yes, yes, yes!” The employees around her scattered like birds, while Lu Weixi indifferently glanced at the flustered Liu Yiyi before turning away haughtily to leave.

The sun was shining brightly outside, and at the corner of a street, the pristine posture of Lu Weixi deflated instantly.
She was beginning to regret her impulsiveness, particularly after the boss called her and lambasted her, forcing her to pay tens of thousands in compensation.
The commission on this deal was substantial. In order to clinch this order, she had stayed up several nights in a row, and the design had been revised seven or eight times before it was passed.
Losing the deal was one thing, she now faced the prospect of high penalty fines. She was even worried that Qin Zhiyou, in a fit of anger for his loved one, might really drive her out of the company. What scared her more was the thought that he might stop giving her the hundred thousand he usually did for overnight fees every month.
Her mother’s illness couldn’t be delayed. She had been fighting liver cancer for five years and, half a year ago, it was discovered that the cancer cells had spread to her brain, damaging the central nervous system. Her lower limbs couldn’t move, and she couldn’t stay awake for more than an hour a day. Previous targeted drugs were no longer effective, and switching to ZERO-1, there was no telling how long they could hold on. But this new drug costs at least a hundred and twenty thousand a month. Even though she had become an interior designer with a monthly income of twenty to thirty thousand, it still wasn’t enough to cover the expenses.
Stomping her high heels in anger, Lu Weixi questioned herself. Why did she lose her cool over something that had happened before?
She was no longer the proud and arrogant young Miss Bai from back in the day. After her parents divorced, she even changed her surname. There was no one left to support her.
If she were to go back now, or perhaps, go and beg him…
The thought only flashed briefly in her mind before she dismissed it. She must really be desperate to even think about such a foolish idea.
But she can’t ignore the pressing need for money, at least the penalty fines were imminent.
After much thought, she had no choice but to call Xue Feifei.
The phone rang for a while before being picked up. From the other end of the line, the sounds of hustle and bustle could be heard, as if she was on a film set.
“Weixi, it’s been a while since you called me. Want to go shopping sometime?”
Lu Weixi hesitated for a moment before finally asking, “Feifei, I called because I need a favor… Can you lend me some money?”
“Sure.” Xue Feifei immediately agreed, “You rarely ask for anything. How much do you need? Fifty thousand or a hundred thousand? I won’t lend less than fifty thousand, I don’t want to lose face! But I’m at work now, I’ll transfer it to you after I’m done.”
Money does give you plenty of options, Lu Weixi fell silent: “Alright, thanks.”
“Hey, don’t be so formal,” Xue Feifei joked while laughing, “If you hadn’t helped me out back in the day, I might not have been able to finish university, let alone become an actress now. Saving a person in distress, offering your own body in return, in comparison this is nothing.”
Lu Weixi gave her a look of contempt, “Shut up, either lend it or don’t.”
She hung up the phone, somewhat touched. Xue Feifei and Lu Weixi were neighbors and had grown up together, but things weren’t always smooth between the two. Until the second semester of their junior year, Xue Feifei’s father had racked a lot of debt and ran off, her boyfriend had broken up with her too. It was Lu Weixi, who was still the young Miss Bai at the time, who helped her finish her studies. Who would have thought that Xue Feifei, after being discovered by a scout post graduation and signing with an agency, had gained some fame after acting in a few TV shows.
