Chapter 55 - 55: As If An Old Friend Returns (3)
The more he thought about it, the more convinced Qin Zhiyou felt that he had never owned a Chang’an car worth thirty thousand, nor a car with the license plate number YanZ4422i4. He didn’t have one, and neither did his senior executives, secretaries, or assistants. The only possibility was—————- Lu Weixi.
Their marriage was a sensation back in the day, an unexpected twist of fate. Everyone knew that Bai Weixi, the daughter of the Bai family, was Qin Zhigu’s girlfriend. Their relationship was steady after years of dating, to the point there were rumors about them marrying right after college graduation. However, in their senior year, the Bai family had some trouble, and Lu Weixi broke up with Qin Zhigu.
On Qin Zhiyou’s side, he too had a fiancee back then, a university classmate who matched his family background and status. Despite having no deep feelings for this arranged fiancee, she seemed quite satisfied with him, and their relationship was quite cordial.
Then, suddenly, Lu Weixi went from being Qin Zhigu’s girlfriend to becoming Qin Zhiyou’s wife. Qin Zhiyou’s fiancee, naturally, was replaced by Lu Weixi. She went abroad later and lost contact over the years.
Five years since their marriage, Qin Zhiyou still led a colorful life outside, while Lu Weixi remained the unchallengeable lady of the house. She didn’t receive much affection, though.
But as it looked now…
Qin Zhiyou didn’t say anything. This time, instead of putting the recovered penalty slip back into his pocket, he folded it into his wallet.
Yu Sixing and He Weiyou glanced at each other, cleared their throats, and Yu Sixing was the first to speak, “So, you and Lu Weixi… you don’t actually like her, do you?”
But that didn’t seem to fit. Qin Zhiyou, who they had known for many years and believed they understood well, appeared playfully disrespectful but was actually very good to those he cared about. If he really did like Lu Weixi, how could he have kept this lukewarm attitude all these years? Even with his ex-fiancee, he at least paid her respect at face value.
Qin Zhiyou shot them a glance, a faint smile playing at the corner of his lips, eyes slightly raised. It was a veiled nod of acknowledgment, a seemingly disdainful chortle. His ambiguous response bewildered Yu Sixing and He Weiyou. After all, it was a couple’s private matter, so they wisely stayed silent and sat by his side.
During their break, a waiter from the recreation center brought some tea and snacks. The tea was Pu’er, and one of the snacks was Osmanthus cake. Qin Zhiyou seldom ate sweet treats, but the rich, sweet aroma of the Osmanthus cake took him back to the past.
He remembered that it was the fall of his twentieth year.
It was Osmanthus blossom season, his younger brother Qin Zhigu had scored high and been admitted to N University’s architecture school. The Qin family was jubilant, celebrating with lights and color. It was as if fireworks were only a step away. He, the “wayward” older brother, barely scraped into N University two years earlier by the seat of his pants, had been behaving wildly, wasting his life, changing girlfriends one after another, and was always the black sheep of the family.
On the day Qin Zhigu started college, the whole family went to help set up his dormitory. Qin Zhiyou was also busy, but with private affairs. A girl from a recent party had taken advantage of her drunk state to lie next to him. She had then made a scene the next day, forcing him into a corner in front of a crowd.
But Qin Zhiyou was no fool; he wouldn’t be intimidated by such an incident. He invited her to the Osmanthus Garden to end things cleanly, but he didn’t expect to run into her..
