Chapter 164 - 165 Boat Ticket (1)
She dialed the number, and at that moment, Xue Feifei was at the dance academy, about to finish her class and hurry back to the apartment. She estimated that Lu Weixi’s taxi would arrive around the same time, perfect for a meet-up.
Surprisingly, the taxi ride was smooth and uneventful. She had anticipated a long traffic jam, yet they arrived earlier than planned. Unable to enter the apartment, she was left standing at Xue Feifei’s door, waiting.
Corridor lighting was motion-sensor activated. She had stood still for a while, causing the lights to automatically switch off. Clapping her hands would reactivate them; the cycle repeated several times until she tired of the game. Finally, she stood enveloped in darkness.
Alone in the darkness, her senses became sharpened, her thoughts crystalline.
She could long figure out the undercurrent between Qin Zhiyou and Liu Yiyi. His frequent homeward journeys weren’t for rebuilding their relationship, but for maintaining appearances in front of Old Mr. Qin and Yang Mogui. With Ms. Yang at home, he had to be discreet, taking advantage of business trips to get close to Liu Yiyi.
Then there was Yang Mogui; although junior to her, she shouldn’t be expected to accept every overbearing demand Yang Mogui made.
More concerning to her were the cruise ship tickets. This time, Ms. Yang took her shopping and spent a whopping hundred grand, the scalped tickets for the inaugural cruise also cost the same much. Despite Qin Zhiyou having spent a bit more time at home and promising the additional pay per outfit worn, it still only amounted to twenty thousand so far. Deducting the expenses, she would have enough for her mother’s medical expenses for the next two months, but what about after?
Although she was adamant about winning over Boss Liao’s deal, she knew the odds were against her, even with her capabilities. With Bai Changyou and Cai Yiren’s imminent return, her hopes of breaking free from their dominion seemed impossible.
The window at the end of the corridor was open, an occasional chilly breeze reminding her of the cold; yet it helped keep her alert.
After an indeterminate wait, Xue Feifei finally returned. Although she had been inactive for a short period, her daily routines kept her exceptionally busy — acting classes in the morning, dancing in the afternoon, and continuous practice throughout the night. She was utterly exhausted by the time Lu Weixi arrived and had barely any energy left to entertain her.
Seeing how run-down Xue Feifei was, Lu Weixi explained the situation quickly and left without further ado. On the swaying ride back, she had an epiphany — times of great peril, her potential seemed infinite.
Upon arrival at home, as expected, Qin Zhiyou wasn’t back, neither was Yang Mogui.
Having the house all to herself was better, giving her plenty of time to work on the design. To her surprise, her thoughts were remarkably lucid in the solitary space. Using the information at her disposal, she quickly drafted a preliminary design for Siyi Company.
But as the deadline drew closer, countless design submissions from rivals snowballed into Siyi Company. She was confident about her work but feared it might get buried under the pile of entries without reaching Boss Liao’s desk.
She direly needed that cruise ship ticket.
Unexpectedly, for the next few days, Qin Zhiyou didn’t come back home, and neither did Yang Mogui bother to show up.
On Friday, she received a call from Xue Feifei: “I have good news and bad
news..”
