地震时怎样保护自己

Chapter 325 - 326 Conditions for Going Home (3)

As she thought of the past, Lu Weixi’s expression grew a tad distant. Yet now, when facing Bai Changyou again, and seeing the hopeful expression on his face, her suspicions confirmed – it was not for family ties he was here, but for manipulation.

Slowly her face hardened, and she painted a small smile: “I have never denied our blood ties. You raised me, and provided for my education. You did not wrong me.”

Bai Changyou’s face lit up with surprise. He wouldn’t have thought reminiscing about the past could soften his daughter’s firm resolve.

Lu Weixi was his daughter, and had been raised with utmost care and affection. Had it not been for the divorce, when Lu’s mother had made such a fuss – breaking things in the house, threatening to take half his assets, even attempting to get it on the news for all to know, he would’ve had an easier time preserving his dignity.

Lu Weixi had been a thorn in his side, having attached herself to her mother, and even attempting to accuse him of bigamy to get him behind bars. After the divorce, she even changed her surname, which infuriated him. Subsequently, he went abroad and she stayed in the country, making it convenient for them to sever all ties.

For a man, wealth and power sometimes outweigh children, especially in families with more than one child. Plus, Bai Weiyi was the son he had always longed for, naturally, he was favored over his rebellious daughter.

But he only had one son and one daughter. Despite the five-year gap, his previous love for Lu Weixi was real. Prising his feelings, he moved closer to her and sat down, “Xixi, Dad knows you’ve had a hard time over these five years. But you are my only daughter, I was just angry before. How could I not love you? If you come back, you will be the same as before, still my good girl.”

Normally, the Cai mother and daughter would show no reaction to Bai Changyou’s words. Cai Yiren even helped the little fellow pick up the broken twig, trying to entertain him.

However, upon hearing “only daughter”, the twig in her hand involuntarily snapped in her grip. Bai Weiyi’s eyes bulged as he yelled angrily: “My twig, my little twig, you’ve broken it!”

Cai Yiren immediately tried to appease him: “Weiyi, your sister will buy you a water gun and a small airplane later.”

Mother Cai also tried to soothe him quickly: “Weiyi, don’t make a fuss now. Mom will buy you some candy later.”

Despite all the sweet talk, the little terror didn’t calm down and ran off to the garden to grab another twig.

Mother Cai and Cai Yiren exchanged worried glances. Even though Bai Weiyi was born in these years, and Bai Changyou finally had a successor, he had been relatively fair to them. But now, with Lu Weixi being his child too, and Qin Zhiyou’s potential help, they couldn’t predict how much of the family’s fortune Bai Changyou would leave for her.

Cai Yiren felt particularly anxious, as she was the only person amongst them who didn’t share blood ties with Bai Changyou. Although he had treated her reasonably well over the years, that was mainly due to her being extra cautious and putting in significant effort to curry favor, maintaining only a superficial relationship.

She had witnessed the extent to which Bai Changyou cherished Lu Weixi in the past, and if Lu returned to the Bai family, she would be left with nothing!

Lu Weixi, however, was calm: “So you mean, as long as I come back, we will be a family again?”
