Chapter 393 - 394: Finding Fault (2)
From the beginning of their acquaintance, she knew what kind of person Qin Zhiyou was. When they got married, she thought to herself that she was mentally prepared. Their union was just for mutual advantage; one for interests, the other for revenge, their goals clear without any room for jealousy. Over these five years, indeed, they had peacefully coexisted.
But why was she now feeling a mix of anger and distress, as if she were being scorched by fire? Was it because Qin Zhiyou had recently been very affectionate towards her, allowing her to overlook the bitter truths that could have been concealed?
Qin Zhiyou’s attitude seemed to be telling her that everything was a fact, a part of his life. The prior happiness was just because the dregs of the darkness hadn’t been exposed in front of her eyes yet. But even if she could lie to herself and pretend not to see them, the fact would always remain a fact.
Moreover, considering his attitude towards women, even though they were on good terms now, who knows when he might take back everything? Three days, three months, or three years? When he loses all interest, perhaps as Lady Qin or as a mother, she would have more guarantees than those women. But is this what she wanted?
Now, Qin Zhiyou was standing by her side, but who could guarantee that she wouldn’t be the next Xiang Yirou or Liu Yiyi? Fang Rushuang was stronger than her, at least she had the Fang Family, and she had achieved a high position at the Bai Family company, ensuring her future career prospects even if she switched jobs. How did she compare?
Lu Weixi thought she would be very angry, but the fact was, she didn’t even have time for that. She felt like a climber who had just stepped into thin air, her body and will plunging rapidly. She wanted to move forward, but there was nothing she could lean on.
Throughout the night, she maintained that sideways position, not moving an inch though her arms and legs went numb, staying awake till dawn.
By the next day, even with a splitting headache, she couldn’t sleep. That Sunday, around noon, she heard a subtle sound behind her, as if he was using his phone.
Just as she wanted to say something, Qin Zhiyou’s phone rang, a call was in.
She felt the bed lighten behind her, as Qin Zhiyou got up.
That was followed by the sound of slippers, then footsteps towards the bathroom. Washing sounds accompanied barely audible phone conversation, then he came out, followed by whispery sounds of clothing being changed. Then she heard footsteps walking towards the door before it was shut. The footsteps gradually faded away, ultimately drowned out by vehicle noise.
Qin Zhiyou had left.
From last night until now, he had not given any explanation, nor sweet-talked her as he used to when he wanted to get close to her. Not a word.
Why had he left? Who had made the earlier phone call? Was it Liu Yiyi, or some other woman? Was he going to comfort them? Had she upset his “favorite consort” because she was cold to her own husband last night, causing her to need his comfort?
Should she feel relieved that at least Qin Zhiyou had stayed with her for the night instead of being drawn away by another woman?
While gripping the bedsheet tightly, her heart was a complete mess.
This went on till she got to work the next day. That night, Qin Zhiyou didn’t return home, so she slept alone. No text messages, no returned calls..
