Vol. 3 - Chapter 133 - Auction
I told all of my friends, including Kiel, about my talk with Viscount Granvelle regarding Kiel.
All I got from Kiel was an "I understand.". In front of him, I muddled up the story about the Royal Messenger lieng, but I felt that Kiel got the message. He might have been aware of it.
On top of that, he told me that he would continue to raid dungeons as before.
Regardless of the outcome, Kiel believes that he will still need the money for his family.
We are now in the middle of August.
The Academy is on summer vacation, so our dungeon time has increased.
There are other things that we need to do, so we raid the dungeons four out of six days a week.
On those days, I only defeat the bottom floor bosses of the two B-class dungeons and three C-class dungeons that I do as part of my daily routine. If it's just the bottom floor bosses, I can finish it in half a day.
Today, I didn't do that either.
It's a day off from the dungeon because I have a full day of work to do.
The five of us are at the Adventurers' Guild. Basically, we only come to the Adventurer's Guild to collect magic stones and to request more, but today we have a different matter.
"Welcome. What can I do for you today?"
"We're here to renew my adventurer's card and request magic stones. There's also something I need to check as well."
We finally conquered our third B-class dungeon, as the summer vacation had given us more time to stay in the dungeon.
We were told to wait for a while, so we waited for our turn in a corner on the second floor.
(As expected, there are a lot of students. I guess everyone raids the dungeons during summer vacation, not just the first years, but the second and third years too.)
On the second floor of the Adventurer's Guild, on the floor reserved for the students of the Academy, there are many students.
I guess I can see why they would have a dedicated floor if so many students are coming.
Considering the history of the Demon King that we'll be learning after the summer vacation of the second year, there were quite a few third year students. They will be going to the battlefield in the next six months or so.
They would want to get as much stronger as they can.
While I was thinking about this, our turn came.
As usual, I ushered to the low counter and asked what I wanted. The staff were familiar faces as I came to request and collect magic stones every week.
"Another request for magic stones today?"
He knew what I was going to ask for, just like a waiter knowing a regular restaurant customer.
"Yes, and also we're here to renew our adventurer's card since we've conquered three B-class dungeons."
The staff member was a little surprised, but he still took our current adventurer's card as he was going to renew it, and to the back of the counter.
"It will take some time to make the change. Would you like me to complete your request in the meantime?"
"I've been requesting D-rank magic stones, but I'd like to request E-rank magic stones as well. Is there a limit to the number of items I can recruit?"
"Well, yes, I think the limit would be the same as D-rank magic stones."
I am beginning to collect E-rank magic stones in preparation for the battlefield.
I filled out the request form for E-rank and D-rank magic stones. The maximum number of D-rank magic stones I can request per month is 50,000.
"I'm sure you'll be going to the A-class dungeon, but please be careful."
The staff said that the A-class dungeons were more dangerous than the B-class dungeons, and only a few adventurers worked around the A-class dungeon.
It is even said that there is little point in raiding A-class A dungeons in the first place because the bottom floor boss is an A-rank magical beast.
The reason everyone raids dungeons is to defeat the bottom floor boss and get a reward.
If you can't defeat an A-rank magical beast, then you have no reason to raid an A-class dungeon.
I've heard before that there are only 5 to 10 parties that raid A-class dungeons.
"I understand. I'd like to check the documents later. Also, there's one more thing I'd like to know, if you don't mind."
"Of course."
"I'd like to know more about the auction."
Our weapons and equipment have changed very little since our first C-class dungeon raid. I spent about 200 Gold coins at that time on everyone's equipment.
There have been no updates to our equipment since, probably because I bought Mithril or similarly priced equipment for everyone.
The C and B class dungeons didn't offer that much expensive equipment.
Leveling up is not the only way to get stronger. The higher your level, the harder it is to raise it. In such a situation, you need to improve your equipment to become stronger.
Store bought products are great, but what we need to look into in the future is the acquisition of high-end equipment whose price is driven by market value and demand.
This is what the auction is for.
The weapons shop has weapons that cost hundreds of Gold coins, and the same goes for the armor shop.
I asked the weapon and armor shops, and apparently this is the best area for weapons and armor.
They say that this Academy city has weapons and armor that are second to none, even in the Royal Capital.
We have been defeating the bottom floor bosses of the B-class dungeons on a daily basis, so we are earning a few Gold coins per person per day. I think we will be able to earn even more in the future.
We have to use that money to get the best equipment we can before we graduate.
Naturally, the equipment includes a Mana Recovery Ring, but that's not all. There are many things I want, such as the strongest weapons, ironclad armor, and useful magic items.
"The auction is organized by the Adventurers Guild."
The staff member told us about the auction.
Held on the first day of every month.
Selling items is closed on the 20th of the previous month.
After the 25th, the selling items are listed at the Adventurer's Guild
5% of the winning bid price is the commission
If you hire an intermediary, you will need to pay 5% of the agreed amount as commission
5% of the winning bid price is commission for listing
(I see,of course, if you find a good item, you might get a better price selling it in an auction than in a store.)
I recorded the details of what you hear in the Grimoire.
"Will there be an Orichalcum Sword on display?
"Oh, Orichalcum? We don't have much of it. As for weapon materials, Adamantite is the best equipment available at the auction. Adamantite swords are traded for more than a thousand Gold coins. The Adamantite weapons are not sold every month though.
Approximate price range of swords
Mithril 30 Gold coins
Heliocane 100 Gold coins
Adamantite 1,000 Gold coins
Orichalcum is priceless
Kurena and Dogora's weapons are larger than swords, they use a greatsword and axe.
(Hmm, I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on an Orichalcum weapon in the auction. I guess I'll have to find them in the dungeon.)
I divide items such as weapons and armor into three ranks.
The lowest rank and the least difficult to obtain are sold in stores. In this other world, it would be a few hundred Gold coins at most.
The next ranks are weapons whose prices change based on market value, not sold in stores but in auctions or private transactions. From what I've just heard, some of them could be worth over a thousand Gold coins.
And the highest ranked weapons that cannot be bought with money.
In my previous life, the most powerful weapons and armor in games were never buyable with money. {TLN: Gacha Games?}
I remember there were restrictions on trading, restrictions on status and level, and having to complete certain quests to equip them.
This is the reason why I don't care much about money. Equipment that can be bought with money is just a passing phase. I've never failed to pass it before. Right now, I am only making enough money to have low rank weapons and armors, but I plan to get both the highest ranked weapons and armor in this world.
"Can you give me a rough idea of what will be on display?"
"Of course."
The auction will have tens of thousands of Gold coins equipment.
[Strength] Ring
[Attack] Ring
[Intelligence] Ring
According to the staff, they are rings that raise one's status. Their market price is about several hundred Gold coins.
(I don't know how much they raise one's status, but it's moderately priced. And it's likely to be in demand by Nobles going into the battlefield.)
Poison Resistance Ring
Sleep Resistance Ring
I heard about its existence in the city of Grandver, and the staff said that a Resistance Ring in this area cost around 100 Gold coins.
(The reason the price doesn't go up that much is because Wide-Eye Potion and Antidotes are also sold in the market. If you take them beforehand, they'll still protect you.)
He also told us that there would be armor with a fairly high resistance to magic and breath in this auction.
It is said that armor made of Dragon material is very expensive, with some costing over a 1000 Gold coins.
I haven't participated in the auction yet, but I'm excited about the growth potential. I'm excited to hear about the equipment.
"Thank you."
"No problem. And this is your new adventurer's card."
"Wow! New adventurer's card."
Kurena was pleased to receive her adventurer's card. She didn't show any concern about the auction though.
"Well, we need to check out the dungeon and figure out what to do about it."
Dogora also grabbed his adventurer's card, and his heart seemed to be pounding.
(Okay, we can finally enter an A-class dungeon!)
Tomorrow was the start of their first A-class dungeon raid.
