Vol. 11 - Chapter 635 - The land of legend (2)
She would not look at him, but he still tried talking to her. There was no Angel like with the God of Wind Ninlil either, so Allen had to talk to her directly.
'Huh? So this means…I see, that's it!!'
It was almost like she could not hear Allen's words at all. Instead she ran back to her desk and began scribbling something intently.
(I didn't bother talking to her the other times I came, but at least she reacted to the fragment…)
Thanks to all the Faith Points Allen was bringing, Isiris had continued her research considerably, as she was even giving up sleep for it. She was like a genius immersed in her work, and Allen had already given up on trying to understand how she thought.
Eventually Allen felt someone's gaze behind him, and after turning around he saw Larappa.
"Commandant Allen, I don't think you'll accomplish much. Not even I have been able to talk much with Lady Isiris as of late."
"I can see that. There's something I really wanted to ask from her though."
"What's that?"
"Actually, I need the Fragment of the Sun to obtain a new summon."
Allen explained to Larappa what he wanted to request from Isiris. After that Larappa nodded in understanding and turned around, heading to read something off a magic board.
"...Well, it seems the data extraction is going without issue. You should be able to take it back."
Then she turned to face Allen and said that.
"Really?"
"Of course. Though it'll take some time to get all the data…and we still need to analyze the Fragment of the Moon too. When we're done we won't need them anymore though."
It seemed like the fragments would no longer be needed after they took the data from them. Larappa also showed them the piles of materials which had been analyzed and were no longer useful too, all of which had been bought with the Faith Points Allen brought.
(So Isiris' experiments are going well. I wonder if that research will help us fight the Demon King's Army too.)
Allen decided to check with Larappa on the other things they had seen, like the statue of the God of Light Amante, surrounded by the Demon General Ordo and Insect God Bildiga. Maybe everything was tied to the Demon King's Army somehow.
"Actually, can I ask if this research is connected to the God of Light Amante?"
"Well… Huh? The God of Light? Did I mention her before?"
Isiris was studying Ancient Magic, which seemed connected to Ancient Gods like Garm and Amante. Larappa had heard a bit about that too.
"Actually, we found the Fragment of the Sun held in the hands of a statue of the God of Light Amante, and surrounding the statue were a lot of statues of high ranking Demon Generals…"
Larappa did not know about such a connection, but when she heard that, she turned around to look at the Fragment of the Sun which was submerged inside the large test tube.
"This Fragment of the Sun might have been built by the God of Light Amante…almost like a Divine Artifact, which gathered the Faith Points from the beastmen and demons of the time."
"Beastmen and demons?"
Allen wondered why those two races had been singled out.
"I mean, it's said that those two races existed for the longest time."
Those two races had existed for much longer than humans and elves.
"If the Divine Artifact collected the Faith…could it be used as a weapon too?"
(But they were praying not atop the large Temple but inside a secret room, and to get there we had to find a hidden switch…hmm…the hidden switch…)
The wound left from Allen's failure to find the hidden switch opened again.
"Being so specific is a bit scary, but yes, that too."
"I mean, the 8 statues all had fighting poses, so it'd make sense."
"They must be the Higher Gods that served the God of Light. I think one of the documents around here…yes, this one mentions the 8 Light Demon Generals."
Larappa looked through the bundles of parchment next to the test tube, looking for the information she had seen. Allen was glad he left her as Isiris' assistant.
"The 8 Light Demon Generals…they sound really strong."
(They're all Higher Gods, huh.)
"Yes, the God of Light was at war with the current Gods and the God of Creation Elmea."
"So the Gods in highest positions were fighting each other."
Gods had different ranks, and Elmea stood a level above Higher Gods, just like Amante.
(That reminds me, Luvanka called the Paradise of Primordial Beasts the first Divine Realm. Maybe the God of Creation pushed them away to gain more power…)
Larappa noticed the change in Allen's face.
"Commandant Allen, please don't misunderstand. The God of Creation Elmea did everything to liberate the people and other Gods from the God of Light's tyrannical rule."
Larappa interrupted Allen's thoughts. According to other documents, at one point the God of Light Amante held more power than Elmea, and she ruled with tyranny, forcing people to pray to her, and fighting any God that did not serve her. She was a cruel ruler who plunged the world into despair in her pursuit of absolute power. More than 1000000 years ago, Elmea and the Gods organized a rebellion against her.
"I see, and that's why Ordo and Bildiga are still with the Demon King's Army. Are you really sure that the God of Light was the bad one and the God of Creation the righteous one?"
It was easy to mislead future generations. Elmea had helped Allen a lot, but things could change if he was a power hungry God.
"Yes I'm sure about that. The experiments don't lie. We have plenty of data left from 1000000 years ago that corroborate that, as well as this Fragment of the Sun."
She claimed that the experiments did not lie. There were records of the God of Light's tyranny, and all the lives lost during the fight with the God of Creation.
"The God of Creation sounds exceedingly powerful too though."
(They keep saying he can create the whole world after all.)
The statues around the Fragment of the Sun had left a strong impression in Allen.
"He actually had a rough time. There was a third all-powerful God that was on the God of Light's side after all."
"What's that? There was another powerful God like that? Wait…was it the Evil God?"
Cecile was also getting interested in the fight over who ruled the world. She also recalled the Evil God's tail that had been resurrected with Bek's sacrifice. The Demon King's Army had been working on a plan to resurrect the Evil God the entire time.
'Yes, back then he was called the God of Law Axillion though. Axillion and twelve Beast Gods fought against the God of Creation.'
Shortly after the fight between the God of Light and God of Creation started, the God of Law who began as a bystander decided to join the God of Light's side. Eventually they cornered the God of Creation, and their fight was so violent that they left the Paradise of Primordial Beasts completely destroyed.
"Wait, does that mean the Arbiter God Pharnemes and Beast God Garm were there too?"
Allen recalled the two Gods with animal appearances he knew.
"Yes, they're 2 of the 12 Beast Gods."
(So it's all connected then. That's why the Arbiter God looked happy about the Evil God's resurrection.)
Everything that happened in Prostia's imperial capital Patlanta was also connected to that history.
"I see, so all of that happened. But in the end the God of Creation Elmea actually won."
Sophie could not stop herself from joining the conversation about ancient history.
(I guess the Great Spirit God only created the elves and dark elves after that. If the God of Creation had lost then elves wouldn't exist either.)
"Yes, he did win. It was also at that time that the God of Creation begat the 3 Combat Sisters."
Elmea was at a harsh disadvantage fighting against two other Gods of the same level, but then the 3 Combat Sisters were born, who were Higher Gods that excelled at battle.
"I see, hmhmm. But exactly how did the God of Creation win?"
"Seriously? She just told you. The God of War and her sisters."
"No, Cecile. They were fighting 2 all-powerful Gods, 3 more Higher Gods wouldn't have done much. There were the 12 Beast Gods too after all."
"And those were all Higher Gods."
(I knew it.)
"I see, it's really hard to see how they could win considering their situation."
Somehow the God of Creation had still won against those odds.
"That's true, but somehow the God of Law was turned into the Evil God and sent to the Dark World. The God of Light is also called the God of Darkness now."
"So the God of Darkness used to be the God of Light, huh…"
(So she went to the dark side. I never heard about that, not even at the Academy. Why did no one tell me?)
They had never mentioned that in the religion classes. Allen had only heard about the God of Darkness from Merus, but he always was very reserved about it. Maybe it was just such ancient history that it had never been passed down and had been forgotten.
"And then the power of the 8 Light Demon Generals was taken from them, some were turned into minerals or Sacred Beasts. Some were also robbed of their souls and turned into mindless beasts that protect the world's order."
Though some Gods also followed the God of Darkness into the Dark World.
"I see, so Bildiga and Ordo's power aren't the same as they used to be then."
(And that's why we were able to somehow hold our ground against them. But that also means that even the gods that ruled the world before have joined the Demon King's Army. The Demon Generals from ancient times are definitely on a whole different level than the Demon Generals we've met so far.)
Allen was starting to realize just how far ahead the Demon King's Army was. The Demon King had once ruled most of the world as the tyrant emperor 1000 years ago, and now was gathering really powerful allies to complete his goal.
Larappa concluded that the Demon General Ordo had once served as one of the 8 Light Demon Generals, and was powerful enough to have killed other Higher Gods to defend Amante.
Allen felt like he really needed to know more of how things were back then. Larappa also understood what he wanted.
"Once you find the Fragment of the Moon we might be able to learn more of how things were back then. Also don't forget about the horn, tail, and heart."
(Somehow it turns out that researching ancient magic also involves a lot of history.)
All of the items Isiris had requested would also provide more pieces of history.
"Thank you for everything. Please continue working with the research then."
Allen thanked Larappa for everything before leaving the research facility.
