Though the Stones’ home was not far from the Greens’, its location was far less advantageous.
Getting out of the car, Abigail followed Lincoln Green with a slightly oversized canvas bag on her back.
Lincoln glanced at his daughter, who weighed over 200 pounds. He had felt touched when Abigail explained why she was overweight, but those feelings had long dissipated after recent events.
Looking at his bulky daughter, Lincoln only felt irritation.
The Greens had some reputation in Gills City. Not only had Abigail failed to become a noble lady and help elevate their status, she had become a joke.
Thinking about the looks others gave him when he was with his daughter, Lincoln felt even more annoyed with Abigail.
If she could marry into the Stone family, it would count as the girl making some contribution to the Greens.
Though the Stones couldn’t match the Greens, they had risen from being nouveaux riches and had plenty of money.
The Greens were now in desperate need of funds.
Abigail sensed the disdain in Lincoln’s eyes and smirked to herself. She wanted to see how this arranged marriage between the Greens and Stones would play out.
“What do you have in that bag? Don’t know how to put it down? It’s bulging and embarrassing,” Lincoln scolded when he saw Abigail moving leisurely.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Abigail replied with a smile, unbothered by Lincoln’s words.
At that moment, the Stones came out to greet them. Lincoln’s expression changed to one of politeness as he exchanged pleasantries. The driver quickly handed the gifts over to the Stones’ butler.
Clark Stone glanced pointedly at Abigail.
Recalling the scene when he awoke that day, he wished he could chop the fat bitch into pieces. Yet, Abigail had hidden in Piers’ Mansion, making it impossible for him to find her.
But now, this fat bitch had delivered herself to him.
Feeling Clark’s gaze, Abigail lifted her head and smiled at him, her bright, almond-shaped eyes curving into harmless crescents.
Clark was taken aback but quickly returned to chatting with Lincoln.
They all entered the Stones’ home.
Abigail took a quick look at the Stones’ decor. It resembled the Greens’ villa in layout and had a poetic and artistic style. Unfortunately, Mrs. Stone, adorned in jewels, made the whole cultural ambiance seem out of place.
“This is Abigail?” Before Abigail could finish examining Mrs. Stone, the latter began speaking. The disdain in her tone was as glaring as the jade necklace around her neck.
“Hello, Uncle Stone and Aunt Stone.” Abigail seemed oblivious to the disdain in Mrs. Stone’s voice and greeted them with a smile.
Lincoln glanced at his daughter, who remained composed and courteous. His expression softened slightly. “Today, I’ve brought Abigail over firstly to apologize to Clark, and secondly to discuss their engagement.”
To show their sincerity for the marriage, the Stones had invested ten million into a Green project. Lincoln, of course, had to show something in return.
After saying this, Lincoln’s tone changed as he looked at Abigail. “Hurry and apologize to your cousin, Clark.”
Abigail didn’t move, while Clark looked at her mockingly.
Seeing this, Lincoln felt awkward and shot a glance at the Stones’ parents before glaring at Abigail. “Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear me tell you to apologize?”
“Lincoln, don’t be so harsh. She’s still young. It was Clark who upset her first,” Mr. Stone, ever the astute man, quickly tried to smooth things over.
But Mrs. Stone, who adored her son, retorted, “If she throws a bottle at someone’s head when she’s upset, does that mean she’ll kill someone when she’s happy?”
Lincoln’s face turned awkward, and his tone grew stern. “Abigail Green!”
“I won’t apologize,” Abigail said, looking at the four people in the living room. Ignoring Lincoln’s fury, her voice wasn’t loud but was firm and resolute.
She wouldn’t apologize.
