Chapter 78 - 078: Remember, Do Not Leave the Tutoring Class
The old ancestor rarely cleared his throat with a slight cough, feeling a bit awkward, but what grand event hadn’t he seen after living for so long?
A thousand years ago, during a war that breached the city walls, as enemy troops swarmed in and the common people cried and fled in all directions, he could still sit leisurely at home sipping tea.
Bai Chuwei curled her lips, regaining her usual laziness, and said calmly, “Yeah, exactly as you heard it.”
Perhaps the ancestor had thicker skin and didn’t show any shyness; on the other hand, Duan Feihan fell into silence.
Seated beside, Duan Xingye: “…” He really shouldn’t have asked that question!
Duan Feihan cleared his throat and changed the subject: “Have you finished studying at classmate Xu’s place? I’m coming to pick you up for dinner.”
Bai Chuwei glanced at Duan Xingye and said, “Just come to the tutoring class building downstairs to pick me up.”
Duan Feihan responded, hung up the phone, left the company, and drove away.
Duan Xingye still had to go to the tutoring classes, which went on until ten o’clock in the evening.
The Duan Family’s car pulled up under the large office building; workers streamed out from inside as their shifts ended.
Bai Chuwei looked up and asked, “Your tutoring class is on the 28th floor?”
Duan Xingye nodded, “Yeah, but lately, the top three floors of this building have been under renovation; maybe a new company is moving in.”
So the tutoring class teacher notified the students in the group not to play on the top floor, as it could be dangerous.
Duan Xingye felt conflicted as he glanced at the time on his phone. “There are two minutes left until class; I better head to the tutoring class.”
As Duan Xingye was about to get out of the car, a hand as white as jade suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist.
Bai Chuwei gently tapped his forehead with her finger, “Remember, don’t leave the tutoring class; we’ll come to pick you up after school.”
Bai Chuwei was somewhat uneasy about this young boy and decided to leave a small spell on him.
She would be alerted immediately to any trouble.
Although she felt a bit sorry for the boy, Bai Chuwei still couldn’t skip dinner with Duan Feihan for his sake.
Duan Xingye nodded and, thinking about the incident at Xu’s house, didn’t take Bai Chuwei’s words to heart and entered the office building with his backpack.
Meanwhile, Bai Chuwei got out of the car and sat on the sofa in the first-floor lobby of the office building to wait for Duan Feihan to pick her up.
After waiting for about twenty minutes, just as Bai Chuwei was close to learning all the names of the receptionist girls on the first floor, she started to grow impatient.
She took out her phone, intending to call Duan Feihan, and saw a news alert.
There was a major traffic accident on Xilly Road involving two trucks colliding, causing congestion, and drivers were advised to take alternate routes.
Xilly Road was precisely the route Duan Feihan would take to get to the tutoring class.
No wonder he hadn’t arrived yet.
Bai Chuwei stood up, walked out of the office building, hailed a taxi at the entrance, and sent a WeChat message to Duan Feihan:
[Your Ancestor: Hanhan, just drive to the restaurant. We’ll meet there.]
Bai Chuwei smiled, gave the driver the restaurant address, and the taxi set off.
Inside the tutoring class,
“Duan Xingye, you seem quite distracted today in class. Is it because of the poor grade in the school’s recent assessment? You need to perk up,” the teacher reminded Duan Xingye kindly after class.
Duan Xingye replied wearily, “Yeah, I’m going to wash my face.”
Duan Xingye went to the men’s restroom to wash his face, his mind still a mess, and looked out through the window only to see dark clouds filling the evening sky.
Duan Xingye hesitated for a moment before leaving the tutoring class and heading straight to the rooftop.
Perhaps the view of the evening from the rooftop would improve his mood.
The moment his foot touched the rooftop floor, Duan Xingye’s entire body tensed up, suddenly feeling somewhat out of control…
