Chapter 15: Trust him or not ?
The only reason she wanted to call for the reinforcements was because there were too many pythons and it would take a long time before they could exterminate every last one of them.
And just as Wistoria expected, it took them three days to deal with the pythons.
\'It is done— Nicolas, we should—\' Wistoria turned around to speak to her brother but the second she turned around, the man swayed on his feet and fell on the ground with a loud thump.
\'Nicolas!\'
\'General Wistoria!\'
\'Commander has fainted\'
Back to the present,
Wistoria finished relaying everything to Lord Theodore who frowned even more when he finished listening to the entire situation.
Wolf beastmen were different from wolf beasts.
Strictly speaking, a wolf beastman would not be harmed by the poison of Four Horned Pythons. So how did Nicolas\'s condition turn so bad in a few days?
Lord Theodore was unlike the other priests, he didn\'t use healing spells but instead first closely examined Nicolas. Even after using a myriad of assessing spells to detect poisons and spells— nothing.
However, he could not find anything wrong with him!
He turned around and asked Wistoria, "Are you sure that nothing else happened, Lady Wistoria?"
"Nothing, if something else had happened, then I would have certainly noticed," Wistoria replied confidently.
Seeing her confident gaze, Lord Theodore frowned even more.
"Is everything alright, Lord Theodore?" Gilderoy asked with a frown on his face.
Lord Theodore shook his head and replied, "I am afraid not. I cannot find anything amiss nor can I understand what led to Lord Nicolas\'s condition."
He turned to glance at Nicolas who was breathing heavily while lying on the bed. His lips were pale and his complexion was ashen. One look was enough to make it crystal clear that Nicolas was running out of time.
Gilderoy held the back of the chair next to him and questioned, "Can you do nothing about it? I mean a S tier healing spell should work on this wound right?" It was just a small cut received from the scale of a Four Horned Python.
How come it couldn\'t be treated? What was going on?
"I can try, Lord Gilderoy… but we cannot be certain about whether it will work or not. I will ask you not to raise your hopes," Lord Theodore said to Gilderoy who nodded stiffly.
Seeing that Gilderoy had agreed, Lord Theodore turned his attention to Nicolas. He raised his hand and drew an array before chanting, "Blessing of the Wind."
The array glowed before a gentle gush of wind emerged from the array and wrapped itself around Nicolas\'s wounds.
Gilderoy and Wistoria looked at the healing wound eagerly. They were hoping that this time around the wound would heal perfectly but —
Even though the newly healed skin remained intact for a while. The wound soon reappeared and the skin started to bleed again.
Seeing that not even an S-tier healing spell could heal the wound of Nicolas, everyone in the room turned pale with fright.
"It\'s not working!? Why is it not working?" Wistoria asked Lord Theodore but even he was shocked by the sight in front of him.
Even he could not understand what was going on. Even if it was impossible for the wound to perfectly heal the bleeding should have stopped after an S-tier healing spell was used right?
\'It\'s just as that man said,\' Wistoria looked at her brother\'s wound and gritted her teeth. \'I thought that he was just boasting but even a S tier healer could not treat this wound.\'
\'Do I really have to bow my head and ask that man for help?\'
Gilderoy closed his eyes in desperation as well.
"Forgive me, Lord Wolfe," Lord Theodore extended his condolences as he knew that there was nothing that they could do at this point.
As he did not wish to extend his stay in the Wolfe family when such a thing had happened to the heir of the family, Lord Theodore took his leave.
Once he was gone, Gilderoy swayed and sat down on the chair behind him.
He looked rather lost and confused.
"Father!" Wistoria looked at her father who was sitting on the chair in a daze. She walked over to her father and knelt in front of him, she said to him, "Don\'t worry father, I will think of a way to save brother Nicolas."
"How— even an S-tier healer could not save him," Gilderoy spoke in a detached voice. He wanted to accept the reality but he couldn\'t.
How could he just accept the fact that his son was going to die?
Wistoria looked at her father who was staring at the pallid-looking Nicolas. She pursed her lips and then stepped out of the room, even though she was rather suspicious of Damien.
But she had to admit that what the man said indeed came true.
He told her that no matter what kind of healing spells were used, her brother\'s life would not be saved.
So, even though she didn\'t have an ounce of trust in him, Wistoria decided to take the risk of trusting that man.
After all, what other choice did she have in front of her?
"Miss Wistoria!"
