Chapter 25: The end of Boreal Worm
Its screech was so loud despite its injuries that it shook the entire ground. Damien stumbled twice as he tried to stabilise his footing.
He took three steps and muttered under his breath, "Here goes nothing." Damien knew that the plan he had was one of the stupidest, foolish plans in the history of foolish plans but a man gotta do what he got to alright? Don\'t judge him.
Collecting the last bit of courage that he could summon, Damien raised his head and shouted, "Oi pig brain! Yeah, I am talking to you, you dumb head! Come and get me. But wait, you can\'t catch me— because your feet are as slow as your brain!"
Good news —that thing\'s attention was on him.
Bad news —that thing\'s attention was on him.
"Uh oh," Dan remarked and Damien had to agree that uh oh summarised his situation quite well.
"Lord Damien look out!" Xavier cried out.
The gigantic worm lashed its whip against Damien once again, its many pincers aimed right across his sides. Damien cursed out loud, with a small dagger in his hand he rolled to his left.
He turned around and slashed the blade against the beast, as soon as the dagger connected with its behind, it screamed and lashed.
"Aura Slash!"
Damien heard Wistoria say, there was a bang and the worm lost half of thorny pincers.
\'One more hit,\' thought Damien as he charged along with Xavier. That thing tried to get up, but it did not have the strength to attack, so it kept falling.
ROAR!!!
Though Damien did not speak \'worm\' language, he was certain that the thing was cursing him.
Damien activated an eye of observation and searched for the weakest spot of the tail that was lashing at him before charging at that thing.
"Go to hell!" He yelled as he stabbed the dagger at the back of the worm just as Xavier slashed down the head of that thing.
Another roar, another rumble and the worm fell to the ground with a loud screech. Its body now slashed in three pieces.
"Is it over?" Damien asked while clutching his wound. He raised his foot and kicked the worm twice to make sure that the thing was dead.
"It\'s over," Wistoria, who landed next, spoke to him. She turned and looked at Damien who was now wrenching out the dagger from the head of the corpse of the worm. "You are really good with that thing, I don\'t think I have seen anyone cut down a Boreal Worm so easily before, that too without using aura."
Damien simply smiled at her as he wrenched the dagger out successfully.
"Thanks," he said just as the large blue notification screen appeared in front of him.
[Congratulations.]
[You have successfully acquired a Mutated Boreal Worm.]
[Strength +9]
[Agility +6]
[Precision +2]
[Would the host like to store the mutated Boreal Worm in the inventory for future use?]
[Yes?]
[No?]
Damien carefully read the words that were displayed on the screen before turning to look at Dan. He asked, "Is this thing going to come in handy in future?"
"It will," Dan nodded as he explained. "Don\'t forget that many of the basic ingredients of many medicines come from animals in your world as well. This mutated beast has disengaging and cloning properties, you can use its corpse for researching and creating medicine in the future."
Damien agreed with him, he had seen how quickly this thing could create clones of itself.
He turned around and looked at Wistoria before asking, "Can I take this thing?"
She turned and gave him a weird look before nodding, "You can, but what are you going to do with that dirty thing?"
"Nothing. I just want to study it, after all this is my first time seeing a mutated beast," replied Damien.
Ah— of course this man liked reading a lot.
After seeing him deal with that thing so skillfully, Wistoria completely forgot that Damien was more of a researcher than a warrior.
"Very well," she nodded and Damien heaved a sigh of relief. He used the storing function of his system. The pieces of the mutated worm disappeared in thin air and were stored in his inventory successfully.
Neither Xavier nor Wistoria said anything as this world was full of magical objects and the two of them thought that Damien was just using one of the storage spaces.
"Let\'s go," said Damien as he turned to look at Wistoria. "I still need to sew the wound of your brother." Just now they all rushed out to deal with the boreal worm and left Nicolas behind with the cut on his leg.
Wistoria nodded. She however paused and looked at Damien who was clutching his wound and asked, "What about you? Don\'t you need to heal yourself?"
"Ah, this?" Damien looked down at his wound and then looked at his stats screen. Instant Heal was back on the screen because he successfully saved Nicolas\'s life.
He tapped on it and two seconds later, the bleeding wound was healed.
"You can use mana?"Wistoria questioned eyeing his now healed wound with surprise in her eyes.
"Just a little bit and the wound was not that deep. If it was serious, then even I wouldn\'t be able to do anything," Damien lied through his teeth while Wistoria eyed him suspiciously.
Damien pretended not to notice and then headed back to the main building where Gilderoy and Luke were waiting for them, even Nicolas was looking better than before as the parasite feeding on his blood was gone.
Even though his leg had a large slit.
Damien looked at his wound and turned to look at Luke before asking, "Couldn\'t you heal it?"
The man turned to look at him and stared at him as if he were a fool.
"What kind of question is that?" He asked with a frown on his face. "Don\'t you know two healers treating one patient without exchanging any information could lead to severe complications? I had no idea that this wound could now be healed nor did you ask me to."
