Chapter 75: Choosing an assistant— Part 2
The anti-venom created by Damien was created using dragon blood, thus the second it was administered, everyone noticed a considerable improvement in Sigurd complexion at least he no longer looked as pale-faced as before.
Adikus, who had been refusing to let Damien treat Sigurd, was now filled with awe as he noticed Damien\'s skills. Azriel, who was certain that Damien was only pretending to be skilled, was stunned. He was certain that there was no way to treat this dog guard, thus he had refused to even touch him.
Coupled with his disgust towards this guard as well as no spells to treat the poison in his body, he had refused to treat this man.
And yet, Damien whom everyone looked down on could do what even the higher-ranking healers couldn\'t.
Azriel clenched his fingers as he stared at Damien at the same time his eyes flickered with greed, if this man could use his blood to create anti-venom then maybe he could do it as well.
With his fame and the pride that his name carried — it would be child\'s play to topple and take Damien\'s credit himself.
Damien had no idea that someone had already started to scheme against him. He was currently studying the report that was displayed on the screen and though the entire surgery was simple and seamless, there was a small obstruction.
An assistant.
He needed an assistant.
The process of sewing and connecting the blood vessels was simple but it required great patience and attention. He needed someone to help him throughout the process as he couldn\'t afford to get distracted.
Damien raised his head and turned to look at the people behind him. He asked, "Would anyone like to assist me?"
His question surprised everyone including Azriel.
Xavier asked with a frown, "You want someone from among us to assist you, Lord Damien?"
"That\'s right," Damien replied.
"But.. aren\'t you afraid that someone would steal your skills?" Gina asked as she pointedly looked at Azriel beside her. "I mean you should be a bit more careful, Lord Damien. Not everyone is as honest as you."
Though Damien was not paying attention, Gina had been watching Azriel closely. She didn\'t miss the calculative look in his eyes a few minutes ago, however, she didn\'t alert Damien as Gina didn\'t want to disrupt the treatment.
Azriel cleared his throat.
He pretended as if he had no idea what Gina was saying and snorted. He remarked jestingly, "What\'s wrong, Lord Damien? Did you all of your courage go poof? Why are you asking for help now?"
Damien: "…"
"My dear man, do you not understand the difference between assistance and asking for help ?" Damien asked feeling a bit annoyed. It was one thing that Azriel was not helping despite the skills that he had as a healer but he was trying his hardest to provoke Damien into making a mistake.
"Of course, I do. How—"
"I will! I will do it!" Thalia raised her hand and interrupted whatever Azriel was going to say making the man turn and glare at her with an infuriated expression.
"You will?" Xavier asked, feeling a sense of crisis, not for himself but for his mistress. If this woman became Damien\'s assistant then what would happen to his missy?
However, before he could think of a way to stop Thalia, that woman stepped inside the infirmary and with a giddy voice said, "I ca—can do it. I am not skilled in many things but I can copy someone really well— my mother… well she was a part Lyrebird."
Damien skimmed through the information displayed about lyrebirds on the screen while Azriel muttered, "Filfthy half-breed."
His words were rather soft but Damien with his dragon senses heard him. He turned and looked right at the man who stiffened like a deer caught in headlights.
"Very well," Damien curled his lips as he said to Thalia with a smile, "Then I will let you assist me."
He glanced at Azriel before saying, "Filthy half-breed was it? I will show you what a filthy half-breed can do."
Damien hated it when someone looked down on others due to background or their parentage.
As he was an orphan in his last life, he knew all too well how it felt when others looked down on him because of his background.
Azriel didn\'t expect Damien to call out of him like this, he flinched and looked at Gina who was glaring at him. She said to him, "Don\'t worry, Master Azriel. This matter, I will not forget to bring it up to the Master Godric."
"That—for what reason!?" Azriel sputtered. He told the truth!
However, he backed away when Gina growled at him. He knew what this fox beast woman could do if she was truly furious. Though she did not use her beast form after the tragic death that took place when she lost control of her beast form, Gina was dangerous nonetheless.
He glared at Damien hating the man for making him a target for this fox beast woman.
"Alright, Thalia," Damien ignored the glare pointed at the back of his head. "Can you put pressure right here?"
Damien pointed to the other side of Sigurd\'s face where the injury was.
"Here?" Thalia asked as she placed her fingers on the side of Sigurd\'s face.
"Yes, a little harder!" Damien told her as he picked up the retractor. He showed it to Thalia and said, "Pay attention to how I use it, the next time you will be using it."
"Yes!" Thalia nodded as she snapped out of her daze, she was so focused on Damien\'s face that she almost forgot what she was doing.
\'No wonder Lady Hestia says that a man focussed on his work is the most attractive,\' thought Thalia to herself.
Damien showed how to use the retractor to Thalia before snapping his fingers. No sooner he did so than bright green fumes appeared at the tips of his fingers and enveloped Sigurd.
[Anaesthesia Spell activated. Numbing of the body has begun.]
Damien sighed in relief through the handkerchief on his face. He placed the retractor on the wound and stretched the skin, before saying to Thalia, "Increase the pressure."
