Chapter 29 - 29: 29: Ao Yan is Stabbed

Chapter 29 - 29: 29: Ao Yan is Stabbed

Presented with fine wine now, the hand that the Third Elder raised to drink inevitably came down.

“Humph, wise of you to know my tastes.”

The Third Elder then proceeded to question Jiang Xiaobai on how he, a mere mortal, had learned to concoct elixirs. Jiang Xiaobai gave the same old excuse, which the Third Elder had no doubts about.

“No wonder your cultivation talent is so formidable. You’re truly an exceptional genius.”

Hearing this, the Third Elder was awed. He readily linked both observations together.

Seeing the Third Elder’s reaction, Jiang Xiaobai was overjoyed.

He felt that his plan was being perfectly executed thus far.

Ao Cheng, the Third Elder, and even Ao Yan, had all been coaxed, providing him a certain level of protection within Dragon Valley.

With a little more effort cultivating these relationships, he should be able to strut around Dragon Valley unopposed.

After a bit of idle chit-chat with the Third Elder, he began instructing Jiang Xiaobai on cultivation. Jiang Xiaobai listened attentively but didn’t really take it to heart.

You cultivate relying on talent, but my cultivation is different, I rely on the system!

Just as Jiang Xiaobai was feeling sleepy from the instructions, a loud knock interrupted them.

“Third Elder, there is trouble! Princess Ao Yan has been attacked!”

‘What!”

The Third Elder jumped to his feet and rushed out, Jiang Xiaobai following closely.

What audacity! Someone within Dragon Valley daring to attack Ao Yan? Do they have a death wish?

Upon reaching the incident site, he found the area sealed off. Tagging along with the Third Elder, Jiang Xiaobai was able to gain entry.

This was the training ground. Ao Yan had been caught off guard while practicing.

Luckily, her quick reflexes and formidable prowess resulted in only minor injuries. The perpetrator had been killed by experts of Dragon Valley, not being apprehended alive.

Dragon Valley was now in a fury.

Ao Yan’s father, Ao Wan, had a cold expression, while Ao Zhenbei also wore a grim face. However, Ao Yuanwu was not present, and inquiry revealed that he had begun self-imposed confinement at noon!

This sudden confinement and the mysterious assassination pointed to a serious problem!

“Investigate and find out! Whoever dared to do this will be ground into dust!” Ao Wan gritted his teeth in anger.

As the purest bloodline of Dragon Valley, Ao Yan was essential to their rise. Her assassination was absolutely unacceptable.

A thorough investigation began while Ao Yan returned to her courtyard. The entire hill around her was patrolled by hidden experts who would kill on sight any who dared intrude now.

Inside the courtyard, Ao Cheng emerged from his room, his face twisted in fury: “The Ancient clan must be behind this strike against my sister!”

“It seems the Ancient clan can wound people in Dragon Valley without impunity. I’m going to contact our allies and wipe out their younger generation!”

Ao Cheng was about to storm off before Jiang Xiaobai stepped in to hinder him.

He couldn’t let his future brother-in-law stir up serious trouble.

“Mortal, are you even a man? My sister was attacked, even if you’re powerless for revenge, you should at least show some stance. What are you stopping me for?” Ao Cheng barked in anger.

“Calm down. If you act rashly and it turns out the Ancient Clan had no hand in this, it could lead to unending conflict between the two powerful families!” Jiang Xiaobai urged.

“Heh, so what? I’ve disliked the Ancient Clan for a long time, so what if we kill one of theirs?”

Now Ao Cheng’s eyes are bloodshot, releasing a ferocious aura unique to the Dragon Clan.

Jiang Xiaobai sighed, managing to pacify him and explain after much persuasion.

“Think about it, if this is the Ancient Clan’s doing, what is their motive? To hinder Dragon Valley’s rise? Besides, there are less than half a month until the Ancient Clan arrives. What would be the point in attacking now?”

Jiang Xiaobai sat across from Ao Cheng.

“So you think, how should we handle this? She is my sister, my real sister, and she has been there for me since I was a kid. If I do nothing when something happens to her, can I still consider myself a man?” Ao Cheng coldly said.

“Of course there is a way to handle this.”

Jiang Xiaobai responded with a mysterious smile.

In reality, he barely had any idea who was causing trouble, having been in Dragon Valley for a few days only, still oblivious to many things and lacking the status to know even if he wanted to.

However, his lack of knowledge didn’t mean he had no solution.

“Listen closely as I explain…”

Once Jiang Xiaobai explained his plan, Ao Cheng’s eyes widened, staring at him in shock.

“Damn, mortal, how does your brain work to be able to come up with these clever plans?” Ao Cheng exclaimed.

“Ahem, you flatter me, you flatter me. If you think this plan is good, you can initiate contact.”

“Why should I be the one initiating contact?”

“Look, I am only a mortal. Who would believe me? Aren’t you afraid of getting beaten? No worries, if anything goes wrong, you can throw me under the bus.”

Ao Cheng rose from his chair abruptly, “The way you put it, it sounds like I’m the type to sell out others, am I?”

Jiang Xiaobai didn’t reply, simply giving Ao Cheng a knowing smile.

You should know whether you are or not.

“Well, whatever, I’ll go.”

Ao Cheng left the courtyard. Concurrently, the door to the house opened and a slightly bloody Ao Yan walked over to Jiang Xiaobai.

“What trick did you pull on Ao Cheng this time?” Ao Yan asked, squinting her eyes, completely disregarding her wounds.

“None at all, so don’t worry.”

“And how are your wounds?”

Ao Yan shook her head nonchalantly, “I’m fine, just minor injuries. Such incidents frequently happen. I’m used to it.”

“But what did you exactly say to Ao Cheng just now?”

Jiang Xiaobai just grinned in response, keeping mum despite persistent questions from Ao Yan.

Not long after Ao Cheng had left, a huge crowd suddenly surrounded the courtyard, including many top alchemists from Dragon Valley.

Looking anxious, they all clambered in and out of the small courtyard. It made Ao Yan look like she was on her deathbed.

Ao Yan was dumbfounded seeing this. She turned to Jiang Xiaobai, demanding an explanation through her gaze.

At that moment, Ao Wan and Ao Zhenbei walked in and hurriedly rushed Ao Yan inside her room without a word.

Watching this, Jiang Xiaobai nodded satisfied, convinced his plan had worked.

Soon, earth-shattering news quickly spread throughout Dragon Valley.

Due to the assassination attempt on her, Ao Yan’s Dao heart had been severely wounded, to the point where it might lead to a Dao Injury!

It was diagnosed by the only Divine Alchemist in Dragon Valley!

Such news should have been suppressed, but it eventually leaked and spread within Dragon Valley.

The whole Dragon Valley was a buzz with frantic activity. Ao Wan had even started to connect with Five Lotus Mountain, preparing to bring Ao Yan there for treatment..
