The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 403: 403 When We Have an Off-the-Books Doctor

Unexpectedly, Lin Lan brought him back to the small building she lived in.

She led Luo Ziling directly into her room and left him alone, saying she would go get lunch.

Luo Ziling could only sit helplessly on the sofa in the room, feeling bored, and took out his phone to check it.

On a whim, he wanted to check the location through his phone’s GPS to see exactly where he was and what was nearby.

But to his surprise, the place couldn’t be located on the map—it was just a blank space.

This puzzled him, but he also figured out what was going on.

Opening WeChat, he saw that several people had sent him messages, including Ouyang Huihui, Ouyang Feifei, and Yang Qingyin.

“Junior, if the weather’s good next weekend, how about we go climb the Great Wall?”

“Eh, got busy with something else? Went to heal someone?”

Seeing these two messages from Yang Qingyin sent an hour ago, Luo Ziling replied right away.

“Congrats, Senior, you guessed right. I’ve just been treating that person we met at the museum last time. I’ll come back after lunch. If the weather’s good next weekend, we’ll go climb the Great Wall.”

“Then you go ahead with what you’re doing,” Yang Qingyin replied quickly.

Then another message followed, “Just finished eating and feeling sleepy; your senior is going to take a beauty nap. Let’s chat when you’re back.”

“Okay,” Luo Ziling replied with several kissing emojis.

Yang Qingyin responded with two blushing emojis, and then they didn’t exchange any more messages.

“If you’re free, come over for dinner some day; I want to talk to you about some things.” This was a message from Ouyang Feifei.

Ouyang Huihui’s message read: “Luo Ziling, where did you skive off to over the weekend? Are you free to go shopping with me? I need someone to help me carry things.”

“Not free. I’m still injured and can’t carry heavy stuff,” Luo Ziling bluntly refused Ouyang Huihui’s invitation to go shopping.

He replied to Ouyang Feifei with another message, “I probably won’t be free today, maybe tomorrow or the day after; anyway, it just so happens that I’ll need to treat you as well.”

The two sisters didn’t reply for a while, so Luo Ziling put his phone back into his pocket.

Just then, Lin Lan returned, carrying a bag in her hand.

Famished, Luo Ziling hurried forward to greet her.

Lunch was copious, mostly meat dishes, with four big chunks of fragrant braised meat that made Luo Ziling drool with craving.

While eating, Luo Ziling asked Lin Lan, “What do I have to agree to in order to continue receiving bullets? Is it something you asked for last time? I really can’t agree to that because I can’t find my grandfather; only with his approval can I agree. Otherwise, even if I agree, I can’t produce the formula.”

Lin Lan, who was eating in a way that was anything but ladylike and could match Luo Ziling’s pace, lightly flicked out half a shrimp shell and said contemptuously, “Don’t you want to be our external team member?”

“Ah?! The higher-ups approved it?” Luo Ziling suddenly got very excited, and almost spewed out the piece of fatty meat he’d just eaten.

If that was really the case, it was incredibly exciting. In the future, he could leverage Dragon Rise’s influence to deal with all those who wanted to harm him.

Hadn’t Lin Lan given him an Emergency Rescue System? It seemed that providing the Emergency Rescue System was their way of indicating their willingness to accept him as an external affiliate.

But Lin Lan’s next few words dashed Luo Ziling’s excitement to pieces, “You can be our external doctor. If someone gets injured, you can come over to treat them.”

“Damn it, no way,” Luo Ziling almost cursed out loud, “Do you expect me to run to your place every day? You should know that it’s nearly an hour’s drive from our school to here.”

“We’ll come to pick you up,” Lin Lan said nonchalantly, munching on her food and looking at Luo Ziling with a carefree expression.

She actually looked quite attractive with her cool demeanor and bright red lips. Luo Ziling inexplicably wanted to move forward and take a bite.

After thinking it over, Luo Ziling still shook his head: “Not interested. If you guys get injured every day, wouldn’t that mean I have to run back and forth here daily? I’d be annoyed to death or die of exhaustion.”

“Just like how you can’t press the Emergency Rescue System unless it’s a specific moment, it’s the same for us,” Lin Lan said, stretching her hand out towards him, “Give that thing to me. I’ll explain how to use it properly.”

Luo Ziling didn’t catch on at first and pondered Lin Lan’s words for a good while. Once he understood, he couldn’t help but relax his frown and compliantly handed the little gadget back to Lin Lan.

Lin Lan didn’t play any more tricks and genuinely explained the gadget’s utility to Luo Ziling in detail.

Then she instructed him to attach it inside his shirt at his chest, which was the most convenient spot.

After watching Luo Ziling do as she instructed, Lin Lan added, “If you want to become an external member of Dragon Rise, this is the only way. If you agree, you can legally carry firearms and get an unlimited supply of bullets. You can also consider yourself a part of Dragon Rise. Of course, you can completely refuse, and I will act as though I never mentioned this to you.”

Luo Ziling was instantly captivated by what Lin Lan described and almost immediately agreed, “Alright then, I’ll agree to your terms.”

After agreeing, he felt as though he was at a disadvantage, so he seriously reminded her, “I’m agreeing for your sake.”

“Okay, then. I’ll relay your decision to the superior leaders. Once they approve, you can become our external military doctor. But if they don’t agree, it’s still a no-go,” Lin Lan said.

Luo Ziling was quite frustrated by Lin Lan’s words; he’d thought that his agreement would seal the deal, not realizing that Lin Lan would only apply on his behalf after he agreed, and he couldn’t help feeling somewhat deflated.

“Then just handle it!” he said, not bothering to argue with Lin Lan, and even rolling his eyes at her.

Sometimes Lin Lan was very cute, like the time she fought off those thugs at the school gate, and sometimes she was very annoying, like just now—this was what Luo Ziling was feeling at the moment.

After they finished lunch, Lin Lan cleaned up the trash, then told Luo Ziling to leave with her, offering to drive him back.

Luo Ziling also wanted to go back. It was already around one in the afternoon, and by the time he got back to school, it would be nearly two o’clock, with most of the day gone. He still planned to meet Yang Qingyin and go somewhere for a stroll.

Walking under one umbrella together on a rainy day felt very romantic—an experience he wanted to savor again.

Walking around the school like this, there were surely no assassins ready to rush out and stab him, right?

However, after following Lin Lan out, she received a phone call and changed her attitude.

“Come with me,” Lin Lan said, indicating for Luo Ziling to follow her.

Seeing Lin Lan heading towards the training field again, Luo Ziling couldn’t help but frown.
