Awakening the Daily Intelligence System

Chapter 123:109, the thing in the basement, Lin Mo’s scalp tingles!_i

The dim light from the cell phone illuminated the pitch-dark corridor, providing some brightness.

But around the corner of the hallway, it was still completely dark.

Unknown is the biggest source of fear.

Especially since Lin Mo had already experienced Chen Kainan’s brutality and madness more than once. That guy’s thought process couldn’t be viewed with the same lens as a normal person.

Anything could happen.

Any scene could unfold.

Gulp…

Lin Mo swallowed reflexively, his hand holding the scalpel tightening unconsciously.

He walked very slowly, making his movements as light as possible.

But the surroundings were so quiet that he could even hear his own breathing and heartbeat clearly.

Thump.. .Thump…

His heartbeat grew faster and louder.

The few dozen steps weren’t many, but it took Lin Mo several long minutes to traverse them.

At the end of the staircase was a heavy wooden door.

His hand on the wooden door, the cool touch made Lin Mo instinctively want to back away.

But his family was behind him; there was nowhere to retreat, and he could only move forward, only forward.

Gradually exerting force on his wrist, he turned the heavy handle and slowly pushed open the wooden door, the phone light shining through the crack at the same time.

What could be inside?

Lin Mo continued to imagine all sorts of possibilities, preparing himself mentally, but ultimately, when he saw the image that met his eyes, he was stunned.

Because…

None of the scenes he had envisioned appeared; there was nothing in the range of the light.

Although the floor was cement, it was spotlessly clean, without a speck of dust in sight.

He shone the phone light to the left and right and discovered it was a circular room, with a bed placed directly opposite and a row of wardrobes against the wall beside the bed.

The bed was made neatly, and the wardrobes were clean as well.

It seemed that Chen Kainan must sleep in this room often.

What does this mean?

A walk down memory lane?

Or some sort of down-to-earth, body and mind healing place?

“The wardrobe is a really good hiding spot. If Chen Kainan sleeps here at night, then my chances of a successful ambush are very high,”

Lin Mo stepped cautiously into the room, the phone light now illuminating farther areas, revealing three large iron cages on the east side of the circular wall, covered with cloth, their contents obscured.

He shone the light to the west side and found three more iron cages draped with black cloth.

In total, there were six.

Lin Mo furrowed his brows, his heartbeat accelerating. Gripping the scalpel and filled with unease, he slowly approached one of the iron cages.

He moved very slowly, his shadow casting a huge, eerie shape on the wall under the light.

Stealthily, he arrived next to one of the cages and listened carefully. There seemed to be the sound of breathing. Was it an animal? Soon after, Lin Mo slowly crouched down, glanced again towards the wooden door to ensure he could run away if something unexpected happened, and with the sharp blade of the scalpel, he lifted a corner of the black cloth, peeling a slit upwards.

Immediately,

Under the illumination of the cell phone light, a pair of pale human feet met Lin Mo’s eyes.

“!!!!”

Startled, Lin Mo jumped back two steps, nearly dropping his phone, a tingling sensation running through his scalp.

He had considered many possibilities, but he had never imagined that the cages would contain people!

Moreover, judging by the glimpse of feet he had just seen, those appeared to be a woman’s feet?

Was Chen Kainan keeping a woman captive here?

No,

That’s not right!

Lin Mo turned sharply, looking beside him and at the other cages covered with black cloth at the other end of the room.

Not one, but at least six!

Six iron cages, placed on either side of the bed, meant that if Chen Kainan slept there, he would wake up to the sight of the people inside the cages!

And if he removed the black cloth from the cages, it would be as if six unidentified individuals were watching him sleep every night?

This…

What on earth was he doing?

Who are these people,

And why were they imprisoned by Chen Kainan here?

Just as Lin Mo was shocked to the point of numbness, he noticed the drone footage on his phone screen.

In the village, quite a few people had already gathered by the electric cabinet transformer, with uniformed workers having arrived, working on repairing the transformer and looking for the source of the electrical short circuit.

Given their speed, they should be able to fix the power soon, and then the surveillance in the house would start working normally again.

There was no time left!

Lin Mo suppressed the horror in his heart, and couldn’t afford to check the other five cages covered in black cloth. He looked around and had wanted to hide inside the wardrobe, but it was divided into compartments and filled with various clothes – women’s clothing, police uniforms, school uniforms, suits, winter clothes, summer clothes, all packed tight, with no room to hide a person.

Apart from the wardrobe, the only place in the basement where a person could hide was underneath the bed.

Fortunately, the gap was large enough; it wasn’t a low-legged or high-legged bed but instead was just the right height. Once Lin Mo had laid down, he quickly moved into place.

Immediately following,

Lin Mo turned off the phone light, holding the scalpel tightly in his hand, quietly waiting for Chen Kainan to arrive.

It was almost dawn.

If nothing unexpected happened, Chen Kainan was about to come!

Minhang.

River Road, No. 169.

Just after 11 PM.

In the master bedroom of a luxurious private villa,

a beautiful woman lying on the bed who looked to be around 30 years old coquettishly called out, “Honey, I’m thirsty.. Could you get me a glass of water
