Skill Forge: Broken Extra Character

Chapter 80 Light Hunting

Freya could tell immediately that this goblin was far from normal: it exuded an aura of malevolence that hinted at more than just a typical dungeon pest.

Freya's initial surprise at being tasked with hunting monsters had left her distracted, but as the goblin bared its sharp teeth and charged, she began to feel an unsettling change in the atmosphere.

The dungeon seemed to hum with a dark energy that pressed against her senses, making her skin crawl.

"Do you feel it now?" Jett smirked, observing the shift in her expression.

Freya clenched her fists, her eyes scanning the shadows around them. "Tch… This whole dungeon reeks of dark attribute," she said, a mix of fear and annoyance in her voice.

"And…" Jett prodded, urging her to continue.

"And my basic attribute is light," Freya finished, realization dawning.

"Correct. Now you understand why I brought you here?" Jett said, his tone almost smug as he stepped back. With a quick motion, he activated the Flight Boots he had obtained from his previous encounter with Mystra. The boots emitted a soft glow, lifting him off the ground and allowing him to hover above the dungeon floor.

Freya watched as Jett ascended, leaving her alone with the goblin. As she faced the goblin, she found herself struggling to keep her footing and dodge its relentless attacks.

Desperate to strike back, Freya tried to punch the goblin, but to her dismay, her attacks seemed ineffective.

Each time her fist connected, the impact was barely felt, and the goblin hardly flinched. Frustration mounted as a notification repeatedly flashed in front of her:

[Error: Cannot inflict physical damage on monsters]

"This shitty message again," Freya grumbled, her frustration palpable as she continued to evade the goblin's relentless attacks. "If that's the case, then let me cast a spell, any spell!"

From his elevated position, Jett followed her movements with a keen eye, safe from the dangers below. The dungeon's darkness swirled around Freya as she sprinted, trying to stay ahead of the goblin's swipes and bites. The oppressive atmosphere made every step feel like a struggle.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you? Just wait till I get my hands on you!" Freya yelled, her voice tinged with desperation as she glanced up at Jett.

"Quite a lot, actually. This pays for the remaining time I have to share a room with you," Jett replied with a burst of laughter, clearly relishing the situation.

"You're a lunatic! Get me out of here!" Freya screamed, her annoyance mixed with genuine fear.

"Not until you promise not to assault me with those pillows of yours, also say you won't bother or pester me when we get back and you most definitely will listen to everything I say from now on," Jett demanded, his tone light-hearted despite the severity of the situation.

Freya's face turned red with indignation. "How petty can you get?"

"You don't seem to have much time," Jett pointed out, his gaze fixed on the goblins that were closing in on her position. "Tick tock, tick tock."

Freya's breathing grew more ragged as she felt the goblins getting closer. "Alright! Just help me out."

Jett's smirk widened. "Say please."

Freya was momentarily stunned by his insistence. "What? Are you serious?"

"Tick, tock, tick, tock," Jett repeated, his voice slow and taunting.

"Alright, please!" Freya begged, the urgency in her voice unmistakable.

"Good," Jett said, his smirk turning into a satisfied grin. "Use any skill you have that involves healing or buff."

"What? You want me to give them a buff? Are you insane?" Freya asked, her confused as she tried to understand Jett's request.

"Just do it! Remember you agreed to listen to me," Jett pressed on, with a firm tone.

Freya, still unsure but recognizing the urgency, murmured under her breath and activated the [Purge] skill. As she did, a new notification popped up:

[Hostile Attribute Restriction.]

[Skill will be reset to suit target.]

In an instant, chains made of radiant light with arrowhead tips materialized behind her, piercing through the goblins she had initially targeted. The monsters were struck with a dazzling burst of light, and Freya gasped in astonishment.

"I can harm them!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with exhilaration. "I can actually harm them!"

Jett, watching from above, offered a faint smile as he observed Freya's newfound power. "Yeah, you've still got company," he said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Remember, use your skills to your heart's content but don't use [Divine Insight]or summon Lumina."

The dungeon seemed to grow even darker as more monsters poured in, seemingly drawn to Freya. Their dark attributes made them instinctively hostile to the light, and Freya's presence as the embodiment of light intensified their aggression.

The creatures ignored Jett, who had descended back to the ground, and focused solely on her.

Freya's skills and attacks began to thin out the hordes of monsters, her light attribute wreaking havoc among them. For two minutes, she reveled in her newfound strength and the thrill of battle. But as her MP drained away she wasn't able to use her skills.

"Umm, Jett…" Freya called out, her voice tinged with fatigue as she struggled to keep up.

"On it," Jett replied, his tone steady as he prepared to assist her.

He sighed as he moved swiftly, ready to intervene as Freya's energy reserves depleted, knowing that the intensity of the dungeon and the swarm of monsters would soon overwhelm her if he didn't act quickly.

"On it." Jett replied, activating his skill.

[Tactical Mirage]

A shimmering, invisible dome enveloped the area, its effects immediately apparent. The dome restrained the monsters' movements, rendering them immobile and preventing them from attacking. It also allowed Freya to recover her MP at an accelerated rate.

Freya took the opportunity to rest as she collapsed on the floor. Jett kept the skill active, maintaining the dome's effects while he sat beside her.

"Why didn't you just tell me from the beginning?" Freya asked, her voice tinged with frustration as she caught her breath.

"You said it yourself, I can be petty sometimes," Jett replied with a smirk, taking a seat next to her. "Plus, it was really funny to watch. You were all like 'Help me, help me.'"

Freya glared at him, her irritation palpable. "Why you…" she began, but then simply sighed. "What is this skill anyway? It seems more like something you'd be able to manage around level 70 or so."

'How can she tell?' Jett thought, a smile tugging at his lips. "It's nothing special, unlike that [Divine Insight] of yours."

Freya shook her head, clearly unimpressed. "Yeah, whatever you say. You really know a lot about this world, don't you?"

"Yeah, I did a lot of experiments," Jett admitted, shrugging casually. "That's how I know how to level you up faster. Plus, it's not just about the skills; understanding the world helps in many ways."

Freya looked at him, a mix of admiration and curiosity in her eyes. "I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the help, even if you were a bit of a jerk about it."

Jett chuckled, "Hey, all's well that ends well. Now, get some rest. We've still got a bit more dungeon to explore." Jett said as he gave her some fruit he got beforehand.

As Freya rested, her MP steadily restored, she began to appreciate the peculiarities of her situation.

Despite Jett's unusual methods, she recognized the value in his unconventional approach and the unexpected lesson it had provided.

Jett settled beside Freya as she rested. "There's something important you need to understand," he began. "You're currently restricted from using offensive skills or magic until you reach Level 100. Until then, you'll need to rely more on your MP and HP for combat."

Freya raised an eyebrow, puzzled. "Why the restriction?"

Jett sighed. "It's more like a heavenly punishment. You're the only person in the entire world who can wield light attribute, which makes you unique but also comes with its own set of limitations."

Freya nodded slowly, absorbing the information. Jett continued, "There's another attribute you'll unlock eventually: the holy attribute. Only those affiliated with the Holy Church can use it. You're close to the Holy Church because of your family's roots there, and they treat you like a saint for possessing the light attribute. Little did they know, you have the potential for even more."

Freya seemed to ponder this for a moment. "I guess I understand, but what about that attack I used back there? How was that even possible? And why is it the only type of attack I can use?"

Jett's eyes gleamed with a hint of amusement. "The entity you derive your powers from managed to find a loophole in the system, allowing you to protect yourself against enemies with dark attributes or demons. That's why you could harm those monsters but not others."

Freya's eyes widened in realization. "Wait, doesn't that mean I could hurt Asher or Elora?"

"Yeah," Jett said, "but only if your attack was specifically aimed at them. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to inflict any damage."

Freya looked a bit uneasy. "I see. So what's next?"

Jett stood up, brushing off his pants. "I brought you here to teach you these things and to help you level up. So, we should keep going."

"Alright, I'm all rested up," Freya said, getting to her feet. She looked around, only to find the area eerily quiet and devoid of monsters. "Huh? They're all gone."
