The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 227: The Intent of Ling Ruonan

She was an exceptionally beautiful woman with an elegant demeanor and a proud air, at first glance not someone who seemed easily approachable.

However, Luo Ziling still felt quite fond of the beautiful woman, because she was one of Ling Ruonan’s people.

Seeing Luo Ziling a bit stupefied, the woman added another explanation, “This is her wish.”

“Alright,” Luo Ziling nodded woodenly.

The woman roughly explained how Ling Ruonan had previously refused to accept the marriage arranged by her family and ended up getting involved with Luo Ziling’s father, Luo Xusheng. She then continued, “Because of that incident, the Ling Family and Yang Family have had a conflict that hasn’t been resolved to this day. The Yang Family’s demand is that the three of you must never meet in this lifetime. Therefore, your mom can’t come to see you for now, or else it will cause big trouble, which would be even more disadvantageous to you.”

“I understand,” Luo Ziling was completely clear and had accepted Ling Ruonan’s helplessness, so he didn’t blame her.

“Yang Qingyin is from the Yang Family,” the woman kept her eyes fixed on Luo Ziling, “Her grandfather is called Yang Chongshan, I believe you know of him.”

Upon hearing this name as loud as thunder, Luo Ziling shivered, he had never dreamed that Yang Qingyin would have such an identity when he met her. No wonder Lu Weiguang had said that he wasn’t worthy of Yang Qingyin.

What kind of person was Yang Chongshan? He was a figure who often appeared on TV and in the news, one of the few at the very top of the pyramid.

Seeing Luo Ziling’s astonished face, the woman continued, “Yang Qingyin’s uncle, Yang Yunfeng, who died in an accident twenty years ago, was her real uncle. Her father is Yang Yunlin, who is now Yanjing’s administrative commissioner, and her mother, Chen Qiaoyu, holds a key position in the Ministry of Human Resources. They have only this one daughter. I believe that with what I’ve told you, you understand what your mother means without me having to say it, right?”

“Is she asking me to break off my relationship with Yang Qingyin?” Luo Ziling looked expressionlessly at the beautiful woman, “Is that what you mean?”

The woman did not answer, but simply nodded gently.

Luo Ziling fell silent, his gaze shifting toward the car window.

In fact, he had known what she wanted to convey the moment the woman had told him that she wanted to discuss Yang Qingyin with him. But hearing her clarify the meaning directly, he still felt unbearably depressed, a kind of despondency that was too entangled to be expressed in words.

“Yang Qingyin is an excellent girl, if not for the feud between the families, she would be very supportive of your pursuit of her, and Yang Qingyin is well-matched with you,” seeing Luo Ziling’s gloomy face, the woman felt somewhat distressed and spoke again, “But now with the unresolved grudge between the two families, neither the Yang Family nor the Ling Family could possibly accept the two of you being together. She struggled for so many years, just to finally manage to bring you back to Yanjing, to enter university. You don’t know, just for this small goal, she fought countless times until it was finally achieved.”

Her words touched Luo Ziling, and he turned his head back.

“She has had a harder life than anyone these years,” the woman’s eyes reddened slightly, “In her office drawer, she keeps your photos from childhood until now, passed to her by your grandfather. She often cries holding your pictures, she has this image of a strong woman in front of others and never sheds a tear, but she just can’t hold back her tears when it comes to you. This past month alone, I’ve seen her cry more than a dozen times.”

After saying this, the woman turned her head away and reached up to wipe her eyes.

Luo Ziling’s eyes were also moist.

“She actually admires the little princess of the Yang Family quite a bit, but she said, you two have no possibility of being together. Therefore, she hopes you will consider this carefully. You have just started dating, and if both of you understand the situation, slowly stopping the relationship, everything will turn out fine,” the woman explained further.

This was Ling Ruonan’s instruction; she feared Luo Ziling might develop a rebellious mindset, so she asked Wuyue, the messenger, to explain as much as possible.

Wuyue’s temperament was quite similar to Ouyang Feifei’s, both being the type who in front of others appeared cold as ice, seldom spoke, and rarely smiled. Ling Ruonan was also this kind of person. But to persuade Luo Ziling, today she unusually let go of her reserve and talked so much with him.

“I understand what she means,” Luo Ziling sighed, his gaze shifting back to the scenery outside the car once more.

Wuyue suddenly did not know what to say; after all, her relationship with Luo Ziling was not close, and everything she had just said was relayed by Ling Ruonan; she could not express her own thoughts.

“Does she hope that I marry Ouyang Feifei?” Luo Ziling suddenly asked.

“It was her request that you break off the engagement,” Wuyue, as Ling Ruonan’s confidante, knew a lot, so after a moment’s hesitation, she clarified the matter.

“Why?” Although Luo Ziling had guessed it was Ling Ruonan’s intention, he still asked out of curiosity.

“She dislikes Ouyang Feifei as a daughter-in-law because they are both proud individuals,” Wuyue said, then felt it was somewhat inappropriate and after adjusting her hair, added, “She has suffered deeply from arranged marriages within the family. Therefore, she does not want you to follow in her footsteps; she hopes you can pursue the person you like, to be with your beloved.”

“But I have met her, yet she wants to separate us,” Luo Ziling said with a wry smile, shaking his head.

Wuyue did not know what to say. Although she was already twenty-six years old and had been with Ling Ruonan for five years, she had never been in a relationship. She didn’t understand matters of love much more than Luo Ziling did.

“I know what she means,” Luo Ziling took a deep breath, smiled at Wuyue, “and please tell her that I used to hate her, but now I have understood her difficulties. So, I no longer resent her for abandoning me, and I hope to meet her sometime.”

“She will definitely find a way to meet you,” Wuyue nodded very solemnly, then pointing to the boxes on the passenger seat, “These are clothes she bought for you, along with some other things. Take them later, she picked them out herself.”

Luo Ziling thought it over briefly but eventually did not refuse.

What Luo Ziling did not expect was that his meeting with Wuyue was being recorded by a camera mounted on the rearview mirror. It was continuously transmitted back to Ling Ruonan’s office.

Ling Ruonan, who was staring unwinkingly at the laptop screen, displaying the footage of their meeting, covered her mouth with her hands, holding back her tears so as not to cry out loud.

“Ling’er, thank you for forgiving me. Mom really had no other choice, afraid that you might get into trouble, otherwise, I would have come to see you sooner. But rest assured, I will find a way to meet you as soon as possible.”

But upon seeing the tears falling from Luo Ziling’s eyes, she couldn’t hold back any longer and covered her face, crying bitterly…
